Case Studies

Here you can consult descriptions of case studies which haven been mediated by the participants of the International Network on Religions and Mediation in Urban Areas. These are real cases of Interreligious Mediation, which means real cases of prevention, mediation and transformation of conflicts somehow (not just negatively) related with Religion and its inherent diversity. Most of the situations of real or potential conflict which have been described involve:

  • Different religious communities
  • Religious communities or people and public actors and authorities
  • Religious actors and actors from the non-religious civil society (the neighbours of a place of worship, schools, etc.)

In the cases described, in order to not interfere in the mediation processes (when these are still "open" or because we can never consider it to be "closed"), part of the information identifying the organisations and people involved is “disguised”, but only when this is possible without affecting its understandability and interest. The exclusive aim of this compilation and the essential objective of this website is in general to be a learning tool to improve theoretical knowledge and practical abilities of all the different kind of actors involved in mediation processes of conflicts related to religion.

The irregular extension of the cases described is due to the degree of information the editing staff has. This information will also be permanently updated and, if necessary, expanded through the contributions and suggestions made by the participants of the Network and also by the organizations and people involved in the cases described. Furthermore, at the end of each file, the descriptions of the cases will progressively incorporate the related and interesting comments received.

SEND US NEW CASE STUDIES

We would especially like to invite all the participants of the Network and the other experts to SEND US NEW CASE STUDIES OF INTERRELIGIOUS MEDIATION we can edit and publish. The idea is that everybody will be able to enrich its mediating practice with the others’ experiences and lessons learned. Cultural and religious diversity management and related mediation are rich and complex fields which are affected by multiple factors and interests –legitimate or not- and which result in situations which are always new in many ways. We are sure that only through this kind of collaboration and exchange in an agreed secular framework, together we will all be able to guarantee a culture of peace and a sustainable “living together”.

You can send us new case studies of interreligious mediation by filling in this form. Here we ask you to send us new descriptions of case studies of “Religions and Mediation in Urban Areas” that you know well or in which you have been mediating. Once we have received it, we will edit it and then contact you, before publishing it, to ask you for your approval.
